Zak’s Creative Construction incorporated some olde good things (pictured below) to create great living environments that are warm and nostalgic.
Raiders of the Lost Architecture

The friendly people from the Los Angeles Downtown News visited our downtown LA store and published an article on their findings. Check it out!
About Our Work in Haiti
Many Olde Good Things customers are already familiar with our work in the Caribbean nation of Haiti. Olde Good Things, a business entity, is owned and mainly operated by members of our church (see http://www.cbuhaiti.org). We’re running two orphanages with over 200 children and 60 Haitian workers and have been distributing food and supplies to thousands of needy people for over 30 years. Since this catastrophic earthquake we’ve received many emails and phone calls from customers stating their concerns and support for our people both American and Haitian working there. We want you all to know that everyone is well and accounted for and our houses only received very minor damage, truly God’s mercy towards us. In the days to come, we don’t know what will happen. Supplies and water are scarce and there will be many, many more children desperately needing help and a home. For these we plan to do all we can to help. We are among the very fortunate – so many to say the least, are far less fortunate.
Olde Good Things is the main monetary supporter of this work. Much of the profit from our business goes directly to supporting and building up this work. We also have received generous contributions of food from the United States government through USAID, and Feed my Starving Children and many, many other suppliers over the years. For this we are most grateful and in this time of desperation we are stepping up our requests for donations of supplies, especially medical, food, and water, and everything else needed for survival. We are established in Haiti and plan to continue and build up our work, as we get our bearings on just how to do so in these present circumstances. For sure there will be many displaced and desperately needy children – we plan to do all we can to continue providing aid and a home for them. Your continued support as customers is greatly appreciated and we appreciate all your concern.
La Ronda Salvaged
La Ronda of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, the last commissioned Addison Mizner work north of the Mason-Dixon line, was recently sold. With much controversy, the monumental home, considered Mizner’s northeast masterpiece, was slated for demolition to make way for the new owner’s estate.  Olde Good Things was asked to salvage many of the historical architectural elements and preserve them for future use by Mizner fans all over. Now available are several pieces from this unique mansion, such as an arched stained glass windows and doors with medieval figural detail, and a hand painted pecky cypress ceiling, one of Mizner’s well-known handprints on American architecture. Feel free to contact us for more information.
82nd Street Townhouse Interior Acquisitions
Now available through Olde Good Things are some original lighting and other architectural details from a fine East 82nd Street, NYC, home. What follows is only a sample!
The lighting has been restored – only to be brought up to current specifications – otherwise we have maintained the authentic rich patina these pieces had when removed. We also salvaged a paneled room, hand-painted doors as well as several marble mantels. Take a look online as well as in our stores and inquire about availability and pricing. If you are interested in anything contact us.
Gift Certificates Available
Now available from any of our locations are customizable gift certificates. You choose the amount and the person you wish to give it to and they can bring it in to any of our locations and redeem it. These make great gifts for friends and family who love antiques or nostalgic architecture. So if someone you know is restoring a Queen Anne, collecting rare antiquities, or enjoys Altered Antiques, this may be the perfect gift for them. Contact us for more info.
Society Hill Pizza and Olde Good Things
The décor in Steven Starr’s latest addition to Philadelphia eateries includes more Olde Good Things from various sources… including table tops made from salvaged Coney Island Boardwalk Brazilian Ipe wood, outdoor chairs from the Philadelphia Civic Center, and enameled panels from an old bakery. The painted chairs were from various locations from New England to New York – all painted minty green by us – which makes for a great pizzeria setting with traditional wood-burning oven-made pizza. Visit Pizzeria Stella – 2nd and Lombard Streets in Philadelphia – enjoy the olde good things and the pizza!
Tile in the News
A popular trend in home decor is the use of salvaged antique subway tile. The LA Times discusses this here in a recent story.

Customer Showcase: Encaustic Tile Floor
Here at Olde Good Things, our customers are the best originators–reusing salvaged materials and revitalizing them–transforming them into perfect accents in new building projects. Here’s an example. One of our customers purchased a reclaimed encaustic tile floor and put together his own design. This added a really nice touch to an otherwise simple cement stoop. Quite an artist isn’t he? We’ll be glad to showcase any of our customers’ work and put it on our blog for all our readers to get ideas, so feel free to send us pictures if you’ve implemented olde good things in your redesign or building project.
