Marble Mantel of the Week
Have you visited our Upper West Side, Columbus Avenue store lately? We recently acquired the entire collection of antique French and American marble and wood mantels from Danny Alessandro & Edwin Jackson, Ltd – specialists in fine mantelpieces for over 100 years. Many of these mantels are now on display at our NY Stores. We have chosen this fine Belgium black marble mantel with gilded bronze Hercules face and acanthus leaf detail as our mantel of the week for our blog readers! It is on display right in the front of our 450 Columbus Avenue location. This choice is over 100 years old – in excellent overall condition – and the applied bronze detail has a rich patina. Only $30,000. Come take a look at this piece and many other fine possibilities for your next marble mantel.

Latest Acquisition – Posh Pennsylvania Victorian
We’ve still been acquiring lots of neat stuff from old buildings prior to demolition. One of our latest acquisitions is from our own town of Scranton, PA – this building owned by the University was once one of the old coal baron’s estates who did not skimp when it came to designing and constructing this fine home. Hand carved oak leaf moldings – Queen Anne windows throughout, minton tile surrounds – solid cherry pocked doors – parlor doors – full paneled rooms in oak, mahogany and cherry. Great old stuff. We’re working on getting this uploaded to our webstore as we write this – but if you have any inquiries in the meantime – feel free to email us and we’ll get you the information. Here’s just a few pictures…
Opening Ceremony
Another showcase of our customer’s, Opening Ceremony in New York used two display cases placed in the center isle and a sales counter they got from us, as well as many other vintage items to create a contemporary look for their retail space. Find out more about Opening Ceremony on their website.
Time For Bed
We always love it when a customer sends us a photo of the good things they’ve created. This customer used the face of a clock we got from a church tower in Brooklyn, and used it for a headboard on her bed. Very creative use of time. Originally there were of these faces on this tower built in 1899, but we only have one left that can be seen at our Olympic Ave location in Los Angeles.
The Collective
It’s always good to see people seeking salvaged goods to use for projects; it’s one of the reason we are in business. It’s even better to see a place like The Collective where everything olde is being reused. Robert DelPazzo and ICRAVE Design created a unique space that takes reclaimed items to an all new level of creativity, “The project was all about finding vintage pieces from all over and repurposing/reviving them!!” They did exactly that and you can see it for yourself in these pictures or stop by the Collective for a bite.
Heavy Hardware Hoarding
Anyone who likes vintage hardware will be happy to know that we are continuing to beef up our inventory of doorknobs, hinges, and other classic antique hardware. So search our inventory or contact us and see what we have available.
Creative Construction
Zak’s Creative Construction incorporated some olde good things (pictured below) to create great living environments that are warm and nostalgic.
