This antique mantel was discovered during demolition, enclosed within a wall, in a suite on the 34th floor of the NYC Waldorf Astoria. It is made of Rouge Royal marble, having a classic design of carved floral motifs and joined circles across the front of the apron. The singular horizontal piece rests on forward facing fluted pilasters. The mantel is marked Made in France, and each piece is also marked 34-E, the original suite number of its original location. The mantel was imported from France to furnish the historic NYC Waldorf Astoria which opened October 1, 1931. The mantel pieces are in very good to excellent condition, having some wear consistent with its age. There is some variation in the color of the marble between the apron and the other pieces.
