Waldorf Astoria White Marble Mantel with Green Inlay

A small scale white marble mantel captures attention with its exquisite detailing. The mantel boasts an exceptional green inlay that has been remarkably well-preserved over time. This inlay is a true work of art, intricate and finely crafted. While the corner motifs show slight wear on their lines, the inlay itself remains in remarkable condition. On the shelf, a visible repair line indicates a previous restoration undertaken before its removal from the Waldorf Astoria. Additionally, a small chip is noticeable on the trim just below the left corner motif.

The accompanying gently worn Crema Marfil marble hearth adds to the ensemble’s charm. This mantel was meticulously extracted by Olde Good Things from suite 35-Y within the Waldorf Astoria Towers. Interestingly, this suite was situated just around the corner from the esteemed Presidential Suite 35-A.

With its origins tracing back to Europe, this antique mantel forms part of the collection imported to furnish the illustrious Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City—an iconic establishment that commenced operations on October 1, 1931.
