Waldorf Astoria Marble Mantel with Red & Yellow Inlay

$14,000.00

SKU: WAN251550 Categories: , , ,

A striking piece, this mantel is comprised of white marble, inlaid with a rich oxblood, umber, and a striking ochre marble for contrast. Intricately inlaid parallel lines of alternating marble decorate both the apron and the pilasters. This same inlaid pattern continues on the dental molding detail below the shelf. In addition, the apron features finely detailed cameos of standing female figures in fluid poses. White veined statuary marble surrounds the face of this mantel standing out on the carved pilaster capitals, narrow shelf, shallow returns, firebox trim, and plinths. This mantel was imported from France to decorate the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC, which opened on Park Avenue October 1, 1931. Original to suite 37 F, a Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase. The Crema Marfil marble hearth shown here is not included. The mantel is in very good condition but needs restoration of a missing chip on the front right edge of the shelf, as well as some missing inlay shown in photos of the dental moulding. Pictured here while still installed at the Waldorf Astoria. Please confirm the current condition before purchasing. This mantel is on display in the showroom of our store located at 2420 Broadway on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
