Waldorf Astoria Gray Veined Marble Mantel with Figural Details

$14,400.00

SKU: WAN251406 Categories: , , ,

This petite 19th century English Recency mantel is carved from white marble with large-scale gray and tan veining. Narrow carved channels run across the apron and down the jambs. The center of the apron is decorated with an intricately carved and inlaid oval cameo of three cherubs, representing peace, innocence and beauty. Inlaid round cameos featuring intricately detailed cupid figures stand in the corners at the top of each jamb. The very narrow shelf rises in a simple pattern of expanding tiers.

This antique mantel was one of several mantels imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria of NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to Room 22R and a Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase.

This mantel is sold as is. Some minor restoration is needed. Pictured still installed at the Waldorf Astoria, kindly request the reclaimed condition before purchasing. The Crema Marfil marble hearth pictured is not included. Located at our Scranton Warehouse, please allow 3-4 weeks for processing.
