Waldorf Astoria Gray English Regency Marble Mantel

This petite English Regency style mantle was carved from a light green-gray marble with a unique mix of light and dark veining. Narrow carved channels run across the face of the apron and down each jamb. The center of the apron is decorated with an inlaid flowing cameo of two female figures holding floral ornaments. The corners above each jamb are also decorated with a similar inlaid cameo relief of a female figure holding floral ornaments. The very narrow and simple shelf completes this picturesque surround, rising in slightly expanding tiers.

This antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel of NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to the 26th floor’s K Suite. The original hearth is not included. A Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase.
