This is a French Louis XVI style dark gray marble mantel with hand carved fluted columns on both sides that taper, with a carved frame around the opening and simple molding in front, all in very good condition. This mantel was one of a group of antique mantels imported from Europe and installed in the Waldorf Astoria hotel in the 1930’s when the hotel was first built on Park Avenue. It is original to the 34th floor of the Towers, specifically 34T.
