Early French Louis XV Marble Mantel

$13,440.00

SKU: J180241 Categories: , , , ,

This rouge royale piece epitomizes the emerging design aesthetics from Louis XV period (1715–1774). Often characterized by curved forms, lightness, comfort and asymmetry, the serpentine apron is framed by hand-carved flowers on either side. The entire piece is carved out of rouge royale – a striking and elegant natural crystalline sedimentary rock with unique shell fragments embedded in a rich sepia background. Quarried from Hautmont, Belgium, Rouge Royale was widely used in furniture and decoration, especially during the construction of Versailles castle and Louveciennes. Imported from Europe by Danny Alessandro & Edwin Jackson Mantel Company – fine mantel dealers specializing in pieces for private clients, their collection carries the quality and timelessness one could expect from these mantels experts. Restoration work was completed on the shelf of this mantel prior to our acquisition. Please allow 3-4 weeks for processing.
