Belgium Black Marble Mantel with Bronze Detail from France

$24,000.00

SKU: J180242 Categories: , , , ,

A rare and exquisite Belgium black marble mantel, this late 19th century mantel was imported from Europe by Danny Alessandro & Edwin Jackson Mantel Company – fine mantel dealers specializing in pieces for private clients. It is an exceptionally large scale mantel with a 17.5 inch deep shelf, a provincial style frieze, and bronze mounts. Belgian black marble was used in prestigious and exclusive architectural and artistic works starting from antiquity, when the Belgian provinces were part of the Roman Empire, through the Renaissance, contemporary age, and Art Deco. True to it’s name, this marble is quarried in Belgium, and its availability steeply dropped following the First World War. To find a piece of this marble available today is increasingly rare. Please note, the apron of this mantel mantel needs repair which is reflected in the price. Sold as is. Please allow 3-4 weeks for processing.
