Antique Yellow Sienna Arched Fireplace Mantel

$9,200.00

SKU: K187361 Categories: , , ,

This vintage hand-carved mantel is comprised of a striking golden yellow and ochre marble with slate gray and cream veining. The serpentine shelf with a rounded edge sits above a simple apron which features uniquely carved acanthus leaf motifs framing either side of the arched mantel opening. The hexagonal legs flair into slightly wider plinths at the base- creating a streamlined and simple design.

This mantel was acquired from an East Village townhouse located at 16 E 10th St. in New York City. Built in 1848 with with 14′ ceilings, parquet floors, elaborate crown moldings, rounded arch ways, original staircase, and 11 marble fireplaces, in 1923 it was purchased by the Pen and Brush Club and served as its headquarters for over 90 years. The Pen and Brush Club was founded in 1894 as a private club for women artists and writers to showcase the work of female artists. The famous muckraker Ida Tarbell served as its president for 30 years (1913–1943), and early honorary members included two first ladies (Eleanor Roosevelt and Edith Wilson) and the Nobel prize-winning author Pearl S. Buck.

This mantel is in very good to excellent condition and located at our Scranton Warehouse. The shelf has been expertly repaired and refinished along with the restoration and refinishing of additional minor pieces. There are additional original matching sienna pieces to construct an arched firebox surround. Please allow 3-4 weeks for processing.
