Classic carved marble mantel with a slightly bowed apron with classic fluted details and slightly angled vertical supports with horizontal lines carved on both sides of the upper curvature. Continuous parallel lines and curves run along the face of the supports, from the plinths to the carved floral corner motifs below the shelf. The leading edge of the shelf follows the same gentle arc of the bowed apron. Original minor repairs to parts of the shelf blend in well with the veining and colors. This mantel was reclaimed from a prestigious 5th Avenue apartment at 66th Street in NYC. The mantel is old and has wear consistent with its age. This was made in the 1920s -1930s and is possibly older. The surface of the marble is a fine luster.
