Heavily Carved Victorian Arched Statuary Marble Mantel

$36,000.00

SKU: P262876 Categories: , ,

A splendid Victorian arched marble mantel from the early 1800s stands adorned with intricate Baroque center embellishments featuring elegantly carved rosebud florals and leaves. The center arch is adorned with ornate rope and ribbon detailing, while the sides exude a sense of stateliness through the presence of acanthus leaf corbels. Fashioned from the rare white statuary marble, this mantel boasts a remarkable level of preservation, maintaining its excellent condition.

Originating from the private collection of a Long Island resident, this mantel is said to have a storied past, having reportedly been in the possession of President James Monroe during his time in New York City. The mantel’s shelf originally featured two holes designed for gas or electric lamps, which have since been repaired. Some slight discoloration remains at these repair points.
