This hand-carved solid oak-paneled room was part of the 54 room penthouse belonging to the heiress of the Post cereal fortune, Marjorie Merriweather Post Hutton. On or around 1925, she was asked to give up the land where her then-mansion sat on 5th Avenue in order to make room for the 14 story building that exists today. She cleverly negotiated a deal with the developer for the interior of her mansion to be moved to the top three floors of the building. These photos show the room in its entirety (compliments of Harris Stevens). The paneling was carefully removed in recent years when the penthouse was divided into separate condominiums.
