This latch has an iron keeper with a Victorian door slide for the top of a door. Normally hung vertically, it has the hole to insert a pull chain to operate the latch. It can also be hung horizontally to latch a door as well. We do have the chain that can be purchased separately if you wish to use for a transom or to make a French door stationary.
