Waldorf Astoria White Marble Mantel with Yellow Trim

This 19th century English Regency mantel is carved from white statuary marble with light gray veining and inlaid with yellow sienna marble with striking rose, burgundy, and ochre veining. In the center of the apron is a horizontal white marble carving of an angel helping a cherub with its bow and arrow. The motif is framed to the left and right by fluting, which runs the length of the apron. Vertical statuary marble motifs of a single cherub are positioned above each jamb, one with a bow, and another with an arrow. Deeply carved fluting runs the length of each leg, and sienna marble inlays frame the firebox opening. The statuary marble tiered shelf complements the mantel with overlays over each motif.

This antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to Room 41M. A Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase.
