Waldorf Astoria English Regency White Sienna Inlay Marble Mantel

This small scale English Regency style mantel is carved from warm white marble with gray and pink veining and inlaid with sienna yellow marble with burgundy veining. This sienna inlay runs the length of the apron and is framed by horizontal flutings at the top and bottom. Deeply carved floral motifs sit at each corner, above each jamb. The jambs mirror the apron, each carved with vertical flutings framing this striking sienna marble inlay. The edges of the narrow shelf are modestly carved with a single groove, carrying the theme of the flutings throughout the piece.
This antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to Suite V on the 13th floor, and a Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase.
