Waldorf Astoria English Regency White Marble Mantel
$14,800
This small scale English Regency style mantel is carved from white marble with rich gray veining. The design of the mantel is enhanced with simple yet elegant details. Narrow reeding runs horizontally across the apron and vertically upon the face of the jambs. The center motif, carved from a panel of white statuary marble, depicts a seated huntress petting her dog, having her bow in hand and a quiver of arrows beside her. Complementing this scene are carved motifs at each corner of a boy with a hunting horn and spear. The narrow shelf is modestly enriched by a single groove along its edges. And a simple medium tone gray marble adds a nice color contrast as an outline of the firebox opening. Finally, the hearthstone, shown in pictures of the fireplace when it was installed at the Waldorf Astoria, is included.
This antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to Suite M on the 29th floor of the Waldorf Towers, and a Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase.
Pictured still installed at the Waldorf Astoria, kindly request the reclaimed condition before purchasing. Located at our Scranton Warehouse, please allow 3-4 weeks for processing.
