Wavy Glass Civil War Era American Walnut Postal Desk

Hand carved American walnut postal desk from the Civil War era with original wavy glass. This was made and signed by the craftsman in Staunton, Virginia. There appears to have been a fold out door that was removed many years ago for ease of use of the desktop, pigeon holes and mini drawers. The prior hinge cutouts were filled and finished in a very pleasing manner many decades ago, which lends to the warmth and history of the piece. The legs are hand lathed and the backboards are made of hand hewn solid wood. Though hard to see in the photos, all of the panes in the upper cabinet doors are intact with the original wavy glass with beautiful ripples, bubbles, and waves. This is a very rare find.
