Waldorf Astoria English Regency Marble Mantel with Urn Motifs

This English Regency style mantel is carved from statuary marble and inlaid with brecciated marble featuring slate gray, sienna, terra cotta, and white specs. In the center of the apron is a rectangular white marble urn motif with floral detail. Above each jamb are complementary motifs of two matching white marble urns. The brecciated marble inlay runs across the apron and down each leg, framed by statuary marble fluting. The shelf is carved with a single groove.

This antique mantel was one of several pieces imported from Europe to furnish the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC, which opened on October 1, 1931. This mantel is original to suite 10R. A Waldorf Astoria authenticity card is included with your purchase.
During its installation at the Waldorf Astoria, this mantel was accompanied by two brick columns positioned at the rear of the fireplace. The shelf extended along the sides and rear, extending beyond the marble surround. Pictured still installed at the Waldorf Astoria, kindly confirm the condition before purchasing.
