Antique White Statuary Marble Mantel with Sienna Accents & Purple Stones

This Federal style marble mantel is beautifully carved from white marble with very light gray veining. The mantel is highlighted with inlaid sienna marble intricately inserted between the dental molding detail below the shelf, and with inlaid sienna panels on the face of the jambs. Yellow sienna marble garners its color from the presence of iron oxides in the form of minerals such as goethite and limonite. The second most notable part of this piece is the presence of 5 round amethyst stones across the fluted apron, each framed by fine carvings of drapery and wheat. The finely tiered mantel shelf was crafted into 3 sections that fit very well together. This mantel is in very good condition with wear consistent with its age. There is, however, minor damage to one of the smaller amethyst stones, and the white marble hearthstone pictured here is not included.
