Antique Louis XV Marble Mantel

An incredibly elegant piece, this marble mantel is gray, light brown, and tan and designed in the Louis Quinze style. Designs of this time period can be broken into three distinct categories, however overall they were characterized by curved forms, lightness and asymmetry versus the more formal, box like furniture of the preceding Louis XIV. True to this style, you will note this lightness in this mantel's design - The motif in the center of the apron is a hand-carved scrolled leafy shell motif. On either side, a scroll winds up from the plinth, curving into a scroll at the top of the apron. The design of this mantel is unique, however, the legs and side panels are polished, while the shelf and apron are not polished, but have a matte finish. The resulting difference in color and finish are visible in the photos. This mantel is for sale as is.
