Antique French Marble Mantel with Center & Side Scroll Motif

The craftsman artist who created this mantel came up with something out of the ordinary. This is a very unique pompadour style marble fireplace mantel consisting of light gray Carrara marble surrounding inlaid burgundy marble with white and gray veining. Scrolled patterns face each other to form hearts, adorning the top of the angled returns that blend seamlessly with the face of the mantel. That same scrolled carving appears again at the center of the serpentine apron, and those curves are echoed with a distinct curved pattern at the firebox surround. The scale of the mantel is very small, with the overhanging shelf measuring only 47-½ inches - the perfect piece to elevate a more intimate room or apartment. This mantel was reclaimed by Olde Good Things from the prestigious apartment house located at 40 East 66th Street NYC. The entire piece is in very good condition with wear consistent with its age and is on display in the showroom of our flagship store located at 333 W 52nd St. NYC.
