19th Century French Louis XVI Breche d’Alep Marble Mantel

$9,600

SOLD

An early to mid-19th century Louis XVI style piece, this piece epitomizes "Louis Seize" - a style of architecture, furniture, decoration and art just before the French Revolution. Designs in this style hearkened back to the purity and grandeur of the art of the Ancient Greeks. As such, this hand-carved piece has simple, clean lines, allowing the naturally luxe texture of Breche d'Alep to resonate. Breche d'Alep marble is made up of large rounded fragments of browns, grays, red or blacks and was first quarried in France in 1712 as a premier marble. Within a century the quarries were widely depleted due to its popularity. As a result, this marble is quite rare today. Imported from Europe by Danny Alessandro & Edwin Jackson Mantel Company, we believe this mantel was used either in a living room or bedroom due to its size. In addition to its material, this mantel has two round bronze side vents to help with airflow - a rare feature with a functional and beautiful touch. This mantel is in very good condition, having some wear consistent with its age. One mantel available. Please allow 3-4 weeks for processing.
