Elegantly carved antique white statuary marble fireplace done in the Rococo style. Rococo style mantels feature intricate carvings, asymmetrical curves, and intricate details popular in 18th century France. The apron and adjacent corners are each carved from solid blocks of statuary marble. The vertical supports are fashioned from two joined sections. This is an exceptional mantel acquired during the restoration of James Madison’s Montpelier house. The carved marble pieces, being well preserved, have been cleaned and are in very good to excellent condition. The original shelf is not available. A large antique statuary marble shelf is available for carving as a replacement. Presently, this mantel is offered as is.
