19th century olive jar made of blond terra cotta clay with a pale ochre glaze. It was made in Biot, Provence, France, where these specific vessels are historically referred to as the "king of jars". They were heavily used during the 17th to 19th centuries to preserve and transport olives, olive oil, and various food products. Good condition with surface wear and chips from age.
